Easy Summer Mantle

Just a few quick changes of decor items gives a whole new feel to the Mantle. Some pretty aqua glass candle holders from Home Goods, along with vintage bottles in ocean hues create a summery feel.

I've hidden the cable box under some vintage lace crochet.

I finally have a Mantle I can decorate! Welcome Fall

I have searched for a small Mantle for my little Cottage down the shore for about 2 years.
Most that I found were too big or too expensive.
This one is perfect. it is just the right size , a great price, and it even has a metal backing.
I adore it.

 I covered my TV with a lightweight, removable shuttered mirror which used to be in the bedroom.
So easy to move
And covered the boxes with lace which doesn't interfere with the remote, if possitioned correctly.

 A bit of burlap around a candle

 Little Mrs. Owl

A very simple  project to use up old burlap scraps is to cover a styrofoam ball with them to make your own decor balls.

Or wrap and glue some sisal rope around a candle or jar.

A simple natural burlap bag for some lavender or cinnamon this time of year, couldn't be easier to craft.

 And finally, at this time of year I like to bring in a little bit of the wheat colored sea grass that grows out back, for both sides of my new vintage mantle.
I always lament when the blooms are full ...the summer comes to a close, but the gorgeous Fall weather  will begin. And Fall is wonderful down the shore.

 Our leaves are just beginning to change a tiny bit here in Jersey, so the orange leaves will get added in a little later in the season when they do!
Today is like Indian summer... 82 degrees and lots of beachgoers, unusual, but very enjoyable!!

Easy Old Window Projects

I love doing things with old windows, and doors. This 8 pane window became a huge piece of art by blowing up one of my photos of Sanibel Island into 8 printable pages which I attached to the back of this window.

(excuse the glare there is a huge chandelier nearby spreading it's glory!)

The next project I had a ball with was the coffee table I made from another old window. It came out exactly as I saw it in my head.

I love it's beachy and vintage cottage vibe!

I gave it some legs from home depot and painted the whole thing in a distressed look.

The window was already greatly distressed, so the challenge was to get it cleaned up and  slathered with a fresh coat of distressing to match the finish of the legs I'd created.

As much as I wanted to keep it, low and behold it went off to the vintage shop,

Christmas Past and New Blessings to all

Christmas slipped by me so fast I hardly knew it was there! I hope all had a grande time!
I had 3 weddings to go to in the last 3 weeks of December, in 3 different States,...Florida, Virginia and PA... so Christmas kinda got snuck in there.
But I couldn't resist posting a few pictures from this December 2012

Fall Harvest Decor

I've been having a really lot of fun lately........working.
I am really blessed to have a job that I really enjoy and I am passionate about.
Working at an antique shop in Cape May gives me so many creative opportunities.
I love decorating the windows...

and I get a kick out of changing things up and bringing in new old things.
Amber glass is perfect this time of year.

This week I have created a fall theme booth with a few different dealers items.

I used a old chippy white  mantle as my jumping off point. Added in some old stain glass windows and just hunted up an old washboard and a few galvanized buckets from around the store.

The old Gone with the Wind ad makes a nice substitute for the real flames!!!

  I had picked up some branches while walking on a crisp fall morning with my daughter, I knew I would use them in my display.

Isn't this wooden bowl with the wooden apples and artichoke just adorable?

I used shutters in another area of the room with an old crate and some enamelware.

I just added a wire plaque with birds to the shutters

People seem to enjoy the room's cozy atmosphere, and the chair in the first photo sold in only 4 days.

So you will notice a different chair in this last picture.

 Simple fun and easy

Update .... Another chair sold from that booth, replaced by this cute and very Fall like peasant chair.

We officially are calling this the magic chair  booth now, because this chair also is sold... and the chair in 3rd photo top left. sold.         That is 4 chairs in 3 weeks!! It's a panic.

Now I just put 2 antique French chairs in there. Pictures of them later.

Ten June Fall Party

Here's a bit of fun project I'd like to share with you on an old chair that I found.

It's very easy to change out the look of any dining chair. The seat usually is held on by 4 screws.
Once removed you can cover with whatever fabric you like.
2 and a half yards of 54 inch wide fabric will do 6 chairs.

I chose a french inspired fabric for my chair. After taking off the seat, I painted the body white.
While my paint dried I covered the old seat with my  new fabric by using a staple gun.
When dry I added my new covered seat.

I think it would look kind of nice next to the French end table
