Vintage and Pumpkins and Lace, Oh My

I recently opened a booth at the North End Antiques and collectibles in Cape May NJ.
I love crossing over the bridge into Cape May and seeing all the boats!
 I also love the colors that the beach grasses change to this time of year!

I know I have to hunker down at home and get myself ready for Thanksgiving Day,

 and I will really get on the ball  tomorow... 

After all, pumpkin pies must be made for this little cutie pie.. my grand daughter.

But I have to tell you, I have really been enjoying setting up my little shop down on the Cape.
 I especially love the shore when it is quiet.

I did a redo on this old desk with some Annie Sloan paint. I love how easy it distresses.

back to the finished product,... quick.

And this cute little french vanity below got a coat of one of my favorite white paints by Behr, Cottage White.
 I slightly distressed the edges.

Sorry these aren't the best pics. It was rainy and dark out that day.
That little vanity's look before I slapped it senseless with some cottage white ..

She is much better now,
but I do want to pair it with a small mirror. and I recently found the perfect one to work on. You can see the one in my booth is too large for her.
Peek to the right and you will see a pair of vintage barkcloth drapes from the forties in the background,

these were always a favorite romantic shabby pair of drapes,
 and some
gorgeous vintage French lace which fits nicely on a twin bed.

Painting, Redecorating, Junkin and Fluffing the sunroom

I often overestimate what I can get done.
My plans get sabotoged.
Like this weekend. Started with big plans to clean up my beach house and get 2 properties that I rent out prepared for the season.
Trouble was I got a phone call just on Saturday..letting me know that my seasonal renter was backing out. So that changed my plans big time. This is just 3 weeks till the summer season begins !!
It kinda puts me in a jam.
I had to get busy with For Rent signs and pictures and  setting up my  advertising on
 "our town rentals.com"
And contracts at the real estate office, new keys, blah, blah blah.
That shot my Sunday and most of my Monday!
Topped off with the internet not working down here at my shore house.... And there just ain't any over acheiving or over accomplishing here,
Overambitious we got. Unless I stay a day longer. Which I did.

And I am just wondering if any of you cyber peeps happen to know what is wrong with the male species? 

I asked hubbo to help me bring the deck furniture back outside from its winter haven inside the house, and this is how he arranges it.

 In a clump.

Yeah. He's got it go-in on.

After all the  cleaning, picture taking and uploading and discribing. I finally got that Rental cottage listed.

It's a  little Victorian Cottage, about a block from the water in North Wildwood NJ

 A small little cottage set back with a large front yard. It's tiny and fits about 4 people.

 When that was done I moved onto finishing up what I had planned for my personal cottage, which I posted about here. I still have a million things to do before the Memorial day start of our summer season.

My list for this weekend

#1. Finish painting the 2 T back chairs

 #2.  find a place for this vintage table

#3 I will be lugging my table up the stairs,

#4. That table will be getting a fresh coat of white too.

#5. Find a new spot for those chairs I am going to finish painting.

#6 Add more starfish to windows

1. Got those chairs finally done and gave them a place next to the hutch.

They got a spot by the hutch. They match my kitchen chairs better now, and will be handy to pull into the kitchen for extra seating.

One additional fun thing I managed to squeeze in was junkin with my sis.
I found this adorable blue covered veggie dish .

#4 Paint vintage table ( had to paint the undercarriage, I hadn't done  that before, was being lazy :)
 and a fresh top coat everywhere else)

Now for the fun part. The fluffing.
I noted last week that I wanted the room to look like this one below from Cottage Living magazine. Or was it Waterside Cottages?

I love this room and it looks a lot like my sunroom already, I just added the table and the boat.



I wanted a table I could use for games and a snack or lunch. The best part is I already had everything I needed in the house. I love shopping my own house. The table was from my dining area which I was replacing with bar stools.

So here is my sun room with my freshly painted vintage dining room table in it.

Some fluffiness for the couch

I love my old drop leaf table and I am glad I didn't give it away!

Spring clean up down the shore

It's that time of year again, when I start the clean up down the Jersey Shore of my little cottage by the sea.
I'll be moving furniture around for a couple of weeks. Plans, Plans, Plans

This weekend I have a couple things I am hoping to get done.
1. Finish painting these 2 T back chairs that I actually began a month ago!!

 I only got the primer on these and then I abandoned them for bigger fish to fry in Florida. I have to finish them in creamy white.

 2. I also need to find a place for this vintage table

 that I have replaced in the dining room with  white T back  bar stools. You can see them in this previous post.

I love the table and it's adorable vintage drop leaf style, it just wasn't working out for us where it was. We had it set under the bar area, because we had no barstools. I just got them in January.
I hope the stools will work out better.
But I need a great place for this table to rest because I am not willing to part with it, so I got to thinking.
Sometimes I like to look at magazines and of course, so many great blogs out there, to get myself motivated.
I found these inspiring pictures that I adore. This room is yummy isn't it?
 I think it was "Cottage Living" mag. or the book "Waterside Cottages".

These vintage tables both look so awesome, and make me want to lug my table upstairs to the sunporch outside my bedroom, and create a little area for gaming and having some lunch with a view.

 That table with the boat on it looks so much like my dropleaf table. And I love the idea below, with the games stacked and at the ready, for any grey day.

Yep #3 I will be lugging my table up the stairs, and setting her up, to combine those 2 ideas.

I think I can fit her in somewhere up there on my sunporch... don't you?

#5. Find a new spot for those chairs I am going to finish painting.
#6 Add more starfish to windows
#7 Clean all the windows. Lets not get overambitious :)

I have started the transformation of the Black laminate cabinets

My last post I showed pictures of the cabinets that are in the Dining room of my Florida house.

I lamented about the way the cabinets just stood there hovering with no legs, like an alien spacecraft.

Personally I would have never put cabinets in the dining room, I would have purchased an old sideboard and painted her white.  But what's a girl to do when it's already there and a waaayyyyyy too much trouble to remove? Well my answer is paint her white and make her look as much like a piece of furniture as possible.
So that's what I have been up to.

• lightly sanded every inch.
• used a primer called the "gripper" from Home Depot

• picked out a pretty Behr paint called "Table Linen"premium plus with primer in satin finish see Behr color center here
• Picked up some 9 inch legs from Home Depot  and painted them. (The legs didnt need primer it's in the paint)

I completely taped and primed the cabinets. The back of the entire thing is mirrored so that is what you see in the background the reflection of whatever item is in front.

This is how it looks with one coat of the gripper primer and one coat of "table linen" by Behr

( I honestly thought this would be harder!) You just have to wait a while so things dry!

 Second coat goes on tonight.

This was a really hard black laminate high shine lacquer.... with gold trim. eeeiiikkkk!

I am hoping to be finished by tomorrow and then I can show the whole thing. The big reveal.

I kinda like the open shelves so I may not put the glass doors back on. I sprayed the gold hinges a brushed nickle and bought new brushed nickle knobs just in case I do want to put them back on. 

But really I am liking them open. I think that my milk glass will show up so much better if they are open!
