The Mirror and the Magazine Rack

Sorry i haven't been doing much blogging or visiting, I've been busy with a new job.
I have been squeezing in some projects, and I do mean squeezing.
Thinking it was time to expand, I have   another space I rented at Cape May Antiques, on Laffeyette st. It's in the same general area as my first spot at the North End Garage in Cape May, and I've been busy filling it.
Here is a peak at a couple things I have recently re-done.
A Coastal Magazine rack

Which I had found like the pic below

I wasn't sure what to do with the small trow at the top that I suspect was once used for knitting needles.
So since I haven't yet mastered the knitting thing, I filled with shells!!

Next up is a mirror that I really loved but wasn't crazo about the gold on it...Dont you just love the big carved rose??

Which I adore now in this creamy white!! I added just a small bit of distressing.

How do you like them??
Have fun this week with all your creations!!
Ahhh I gotta go to work!!

C U later alligator... thank you for stopping by!

Life is Good

We took a trip to one of the islands on the Gulf Coast, Boca Grande Florida yesterday. this is one of my favorite beaches. I knew it was going to be a great day when we were pulling out of our driveway. Right there in the middle of our lawn stood a great big white egrit or heron.

Then we had one of our most awesome beach days ever.
The area we went to is full of sea life. We took our snorkles with us. My daughter found these 2 large conch shells in the water about 5 feet deep.

A thrilling find!

They were both empty. Which means you can keep them. If you find one with a live animal in it you must throw it back.

Boca is an awesome place. This is the lighthouse.

The sand is very soft in some places, and all crushed up seashells closer to the water.

There were so many seashells.

And the water is aqua like the Caribbean.

We also saw a manta ray. I was walking with my camera, just taking shots and here comes this dark object in the water. It could have been a dolphin or a shark. They come close here because of the river. this manta was about four feet wide.

A quick shot as he flaps by.

This was one of those very memorable days!
I feel so blessed to be able to enjoy these wonderful gifts from the sea.

My daughter's found seashells will grace my coffee table now.

A storm was brewing over Cape May

These photos are from a couple of weeks ago. There was a storm brewing and I went down to watch the sun as it was setting.

On the southernmost edge of New Jersey, Sunset beach Cape May. Where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. I swore I saw a water spout. You may be able to see  a little bit of it in the 2nd picture,
 in the cloud.

.
Sorry this is a little dark , I took it with my i-phone.
I suppose I could get around to some fancy footwork with the photo editor but I was afraid I might mess it up, and not be able to get back my original.
I haven't really delved into that whole adjust and edit thing yet.
Another shot, slightly to the left of the previous picture, someone had set up a couple of chairs to watch Mother nature's performance, this photo seems to have a slightly better exposure, probably because of the angle of the sun to my phone.

The storm cloud actually moved away really fast and only sprinkled us with a very small amount of rain. Behind the cloud still remained a bright blue sky!

The clouds quickly turned to a gorgeous site before us, and we all sort of were looking
 for that infamous green flash!

As the sun dipped beyond the horizon we thought the spectacle was finished.

But as we turned around the sky was still blue and streaked with cotton candy pink.
With  an old military watch tower a way off in the distance who could resist taking more shots!
It didn't even seem like the same day, but it was.

And that sign in the foregrown says "Reserved Parking for Cottage" I love that! There is a little cottage there. That someone lives in.

And just a couple more, bear with me...

This last photo  was  taken hours before on our ride to the site. I just could not resist the pumpkin patch.
In honor of Thanksgiving.

Thanks for stopping by!

What a Fantastic Summer!

I know the summer is beginning to wind down, but the weather has been so fantastic, I don't want it to end!.
There have been so many people at the beaches. Here is a view on a busy Saturday.
Somebody was apparently in need of help. Not to worry, they got it, and all is fine.

I really like it when it is less crowded and things are much more normal.
Like below.

We certainly enjoy our walks to the beach, and I snapped the pic below on our way.

Yesterday my daughter and I went down the beach just before sundown,  to catch some minnows,
and realized we should have bought a trash bag with us.
People from the weekend left so much trash on our gorgeous beach.
Why do people not clean up after themselves?
Don't they know that marine life can die from swallowing their stupid plastic containers and toys?
I'm used to it looking pristine.

Lucky we had a small bucket we took with us for minnows, we used that to clean up a bit.
Normally the beach does get cleaned up by the city but this part is a no swimming allowed beach,
so they don't come here to clean it.
And people do come here anyway as you can see by the first picture and the one below!
They even set up tents.

I like it best when it calms down a bit.

Below is on our walk back home to the cottage.
On a large strip of beach were most don't bother to walk to!
Of course we don't want to leave.

I certainly do love it here...

My Little Piece of Heaven

Thursday, July 29, 2010

I found a Cottage in the best possible location. Everywhere i go is another great view.
This was driving back from dinner one night. I just love the sky blue pink
Remember that crayon color?
This picture was taken with my cell phone while the car was moving. Such a handy dandy device that blackberry! I love this sunset!

And the picture below of pink streaks across the sky from the sun setting, which I ran out to the bay to see but was a bit late to get pictures, but these pics I took from my Cottage, in the sunroom on the second floor... what used to be a tatty old deck... I love that I get to see the sun rise and when it does a fancy setting I see the colors from this location. Sometimes on a really clear night I can see the red lights of Atlantic City, some 60 miles clear up the coast.

And below are the gorgeous sunrise that sometimes wakes me.
I love how the little boat was gliding by.

This is the place that has bought so many fine memories for me and my family.
I am forever grateful.

Thanks for stopping by!

The Pleasures of the Sea

Thursday, July 29, 2010

There are always times when I relish the bussyness and the lovely summer colors that come with the activity of tourist season.
Here is one such moment. It remains one of my favorites.

I was just puttering around cleaning up in my sunroom and this came upon my view.
There were 2 sailboats, just off the coast.

The great pleasure in this was a feeling of being at the beach, without even leaving home.
I watched as they glided on the surf.

I would have missed this 2 years ago, before I had the sunroom built.
Where the sunroom is, used to be a old cricketty deck that was too hot to go sit on, because the sun beat on it all day.
I would not have seen such a sight because I would never spend much time on the deck. Even though it had a great view and I wanted to, it was just too, too hot!
Now I am so glad I decided to have it built. Now I enjoy it so much, it serves as a whole other room for the family, and has served as a sort of family room on the second floor. It is just off my bedroom, and even sleeps people when everyone comes down together!
This is the whole sunroom on a cloudy day. Later I will post some ideas I've used to decorate it.
That little starfish on the top right corner is what I used to make my signature below, tell me if you like it.
